Overview

This week we’ve begun to learn about entrepreneurs and what motivates someone to become one. We’ve read about the characteristics of successful entrepreneurs and the reason to enter the entrepreneurial world. Successful entrepreneurs come from all different backgrounds but most all are highly motivated, willing to take risks, and exceptionally creative.

What You’ll Need

• Your tech kit including laptop
• Internet for research
• The attached list of famous entrepreneurs
• At least 3 credible sources (Wikipedia does not count)

Prepare

Review the attached list of famous entrepreneurs. Choose two successful entrepreneurs and research them. You may choose them from the attached list or select different entrepreneurs you would prefer to research. If you’re not sure that the person you selected is actually an entrepreneur, contact your instructor in advance of the due date to verify that your selection is appropriate for this project.

Create

Create a Word document with a separate section for each entrepreneur. Answer the following:

• Who did you choose? Why did you choose them?
• What is their background?
• How did they become successful entrepreneurs?
• What are their entrepreneurial styles?
• What are their habits that contribute to their success?
• How do these contribute?
• What did you learn from them that may help you in your career?

Cite resources using APA format both in-text and in a separate reference page.

Incorporate the concepts and terminology learned from this week’s readings into the paper, demonstrating how the entrepreneurs you chose reflect the concepts learned about in the Read & View activities.

Sara Blakely – the world’s youngest self-made billionaire, inventor and founder of Spanx, an intimate apparel company that helps shape women everywhere.

Sarah Breedlove – an entrepreneur, philanthropist and social activist developed a line of hair care products for African-American women.

Mark Cuban – entrepreneur, investor, and owner of a sports franchise, theater and film distribution company. He created Broadcast.com, an internet radio company that helped to revolutionize live-streaming. 

John Paul DeJoria – entrepreneur and philanthropist who co-founded the Paul Mitchell line of hair products.

Walt Disney – entrepreneur, animator, voice actor, and film producer. He introduced new developments in cartoon production and created Mickey Mouse.

Thomas Edison – an inventor and entrepreneur who created the phonograph, the motion picture camera, and many other products that affect our lives every day.

Henry Ford – an American industrialist, he created the Model T Ford and revolutionized automobile assembly line production.

Bill Gates – co-founded the world’s largest software business, Microsoft.

Lori Greiner – turned an idea for an earring organizer into a multi-million-dollar national brand. She has created over 500 new products, has written a national best-selling book and stars on ABC’s Shark Tank.

Robert Herjavec – built and sold several IT companies and founded Herjavec Group, one of North America’s fastest growing technology companies. Stars on Shark Tank.

Steve Jobs – an IT entrepreneur and inventor, co-founded Apple Inc. 

Daymond John – entrepreneur, investor, motivational speaker, and fashion mogul. He created a hat, sold it on the street corner and turned it into a multi-million-dollar fashion brand, FUBU.

Elon Musk – an engineer and inventor. He founded SpaceX and co-founded Tesla Motors.

Ron Popeil – an inventor and TV marketing personality. He founded Ronco, a kitchen appliance company, to sell his inventions.

Anita Roddick – an entrepreneur, environmentalist and human rights activist, she founded The Body Shop, a cosmetics company that uses natural products and prohibits testing on animals.

J.K. Rowling – a single mother on welfare when she wrote Harry Potter and eventually turned it into a billion-dollar brand.

Oprah Winfrey – media mogul and philanthropist, parlayed a talk show into a national brand.
