PART ONE OF TWO OF THIS ASSISGNEMNT
This assignment will be the first of the two-part policy process assignment in which you will identify and analyze a public health policy. The first assignment is a policy analysis essay and the second assignment will be a redevelopment of the same policy. Visit the National Conference of State Legislation website and select a policy of interest to you. Examples of public health policies include HPV vaccinations, allocation of resources for epidemics, and tobacco and smoking to name a few.
Instructions
For this assignment, do the following:
• Describe a public health issue and an existing policy related to that issue. Discuss the series of events that led to the development of the policy, including epidemiological data that substantiated it.
• Analyze how current policy impacts outcomes for the public health issue and the key stakeholders.
• Evaluate who has the greatest interest in the implementation of the policy.
• Include the alternatives that were considered before this policy was implemented.
• Evaluate whether the policy is achieving its goals and identify the parts of it that are less effective.
• In relation to the public health policy, analyze how cultural values and practices impact its effectiveness.
• Identify the ethical dilemma or trade-offs policymakers must consider regarding this policy.
