The regular modification of passwords is essential to any organization that strives to uphold an effective password policy. Password security means having restrictions on users as well as enforcing expiration dates. Oracle, like any other database software allows users to modify their passwords. The EM Express (Oracle Enterprise Manager Database Express) can be used to carry out the modification of the password by changing the password-related attributes of the DEFAULT named profile (Oracle, 2017). The following are simple steps that any user can follow to manage their password.
1. Ensure the account being used has privileges that allow you to modify the password policy as you log into the EM Express. Most preferably the SYSTEM user account has the authority to perform such tasks.
2. Select Profiles under the Security menu to view the profile page.
3. Select DEFAULT under the profiles menu and head to the Actions tab and select Alter Profile. The general page will have an Alter Profile wizard.
4. To view the passwords page, select the right arrow button which will prompt the page to appear.
5. You will be given a criteria to aid in password modification. Among the choices will be expiration period, lock days, number of passwords to retain, number of days to maintain password, complexity, number of failed attempts and, lock duration in case of failed attempts. The down arrows will allow you to choose the valid entry.
6. Once you have selected the valid options, click okay to save the changes. A message confirming the entries appears to notify you of the implemented changes.
