SSRIs work by inhibiting the reuptake of serotonin, which increases the levels of serotonin available in the brain and allows it to act longer on its receptors.
Expected outcomes of SSRI treatment include an improvement in mood, sleep, and appetite, as well as a reduction in anxiety and stress. However, SSRIs can also have potential side effects, such as nausea, diarrhea, and sexual dysfunction.
