I do agree that AI could be either the best or worst thing ever. AI is going to be a beneficial and progressive technology for the human race. AI, deep learning, and machine learning can be executed in multiple areas where it can practically increase productivity beyond human imagination. Currently, the AI technology is offering mind-blowing results in areas as intricate as logo designing; humanity could never imagine this degree of progress in the past (Davenport, 2018). AI is also revolutionizing the workplace; the technology is increasingly being used to do many tedious and lengthy tasks. For example, AI is utilized in the automotive industry to do repetitive tasks like performing a routine operation in the assembly line. People are also benefiting from AI through preventive interventions. AI has the potential of aiding in the process of diagnosis and identifying medical problems before they become severe (Davenport, 2018).
Simultaneously, AI could potentially surpass the dominance of human beings. There is the fear that AI could reach a point where it does not care for or about the existence of human beings anymore, like what occurs with Skynet in the Terminator series of movie. The AI technology could reach a point where it can teach itself and improve and invent by itself, and rather than becoming a force for bettering humanity, humanity could become a servant of the technology (Bostrom, 2014). In the wrong hands, AI could prove to be dangerous to the human race. Individuals or countries with nefarious intentions could use the technology to develop dangerous weapons that will cause mass casualties. There is also the risk of humans not being able to turn off these robots leading to an AI war.
