Information Architecture

Information Architecture
Information Architecture is about the organization, description and accessibility of information to any potential users who may need the information (Rosenfeld, Morville, & Arango, 2015). In my organization, the information architecture is described based on the information needs of various departments. The stores department, for example, requires real-time information at all times but the data is smaller chucks since it is in text form. At the administrator’s side, the information required is more overarching in the entire organization. They have access, for example, to all medical reports that other junior staff may not have. Their information access is therefore privileged for greater access. On the other hand, the medical staff, physicians, radiologists, lab technologists or nurses, may require data in larger chucks. The radiologists requires access to the patients scan history while the physician may require the entire medical history. The differing information needs affect the kind of information architecture the organization uses (Brown, 2016).
The Health Information Technology System in my organization is designed primarily to facilitate larger traffic flows and real time access. The system is designed to carry larger amounts of data to the medical departments such as radiology but to provide fast access to the stores and monitoring departments (Doyle, 2016).
According to Kvist (2014), evidence based practise requires access to information about the patient. The Health IT system in my organization is designed to deliver all the necessary information to the health practitioner as required. Moreover, it is designed to ensure that all the decisions made have to be supported by evidence from the information added or presented to the system. The system brings together the essentials of EBP by providing access to research evidence, clinical expertise and ensuring the patient’s needs are met (Gupta 2013).
