David McCandless turns complex data sets (like worldwide military spending, media buzz, Facebook status updates) into beautiful, simple diagrams that tease out unseen patterns and connections. Choose ONE of the graphics to discuss from Information is Beautiful.and then answer the questions below. Be sure to indicate in your response, which of the graphics you have chosen to analyze.

Topic 2: Infographics
Discussion:
An infographic is a visual representation of information, data, or knowledge meant to present complex information quickly and clearly. Infographics exist on nearly any topic you can imagine, proliferating in the digital age with social media.

Locate an infographic which relates to ONE of the topics covered within this course: (no more than two postings related to the same topic will be permitted). Examples of topics covered in this class are: Fake News, Privacy & Security, Digital Divide, etc.

David McCandless’ s tend talk describes the beauty that is data when viewed in a consumer’s eyes. McCandless’s presentation demonstrates the importance of data, not just to IT experts but also to creative designers. Moreover, information visualization helps us understand the importance of connections and patterns in visualizing a specific design. In this discussion, the graphic design chosen is a presentation showing that the number of tigers has been on the rise (Information is Beautiful. 2020).
The ideas and information that the author presents is about tiger population where he argues that this population is expected to double from 3200 in 2010 to 6400 tigers in 2022 (Information is Beautiful, 2020). The main conclusion told in this graphic is that this significant milestone has become possible due to collaborations made between various countries in activities such as eliminating poaching, protecting habitats and stamping down on wildlife crime.
The author has represented this data clearly and precisely which is aimed at making it decipherable to anybody wishing to make any quick and direct comparisons. For instance, the data is represented using bar graphs broken down to three distinct years 2010, 2016 and 2022. Adopting this technique is effective in helping any casual observer to appreciate the difference made each year. Other way the author has told about the information relating to this data is through the use of numbers which have been indicated at the end of each bar graph to demonstrate the actual increase in the number of tigers each year.
The only area I dislike about this infographic is with it coloring because it has used similar colors on the first two bars which make it very difficult for the observer to differentiate between them. As such, I would recommend the use of distinct colors on each bar representing a given set of information.
