Topic 1: How Antennas Work
The purpose of an antenna in a radio transmitter is to launch the radio waves into space. In a receiver, the idea is to pick up as much of the transmitter’s power as possible and supply it to the tuner. The size of a radio antenna is directly related to the frequency of the signal that the antenna is trying to transmit or receive. List the different types of antennas and their applications. Find images that help describe the different antennas.

How Antennas Work
Concepts like types of antennas are essential to an engineer’s knowledge of wireless communication systems. There are various types of antennas with each design having its own functions. The following are just but a few of the different types of antennas.
Wire antennas are the most common type as they can be found on cars, buildings, aircrafts and ships. The loop antenna is a good example within the wire antennas family. They function well with the 3GHz frequency as they are sensitive to radio waves (Ravi, 2019). The circumference of the loop will determine the efficiency or transmission.
Log periodic antennas work on a wide range of frequencies depending on the direction it points. The physical structure of the antenna is made of dipoles on the length of the antenna with spaces in between (Mizan, 2019). Direction, gain and a variable bandwidth are essential to form an active field on the antenna for smooth transitions
Reflector antennas are also another common type that function by reflecting electromagnetic waves. A good example is the corner reflector antenna that is used in collimation of EM energy in situations of forwarding energy (Ravi, 2019). Dihedral forms are used for these reflectors but in some cases the trihedral form is used for applications dealing with radar targets.
Lastly, array antennas are another type and they use radiators and elements to form their own induction fields (Mizan, 2019). The antennas has multiple elements overlapping each other hence forming a sum of induction fields.
These are just but a few examples as the list of different types of antennas is quite extensive.
