As you are all aware, enhancing the outcomes of patients is a key driver of new technologies set-up to enable the continuity of care. Numerous foundational components that bolster “digital healthcare” are here currently, and the newest technologies need a sturdy network backbone to ensure peak network performance. It is for this reason that I have identified regulations that govern certain network infrastructure within the healthcare organization that we should all adhere to. One such regulation pertains to patient data security. Healthcare data security is a vital component of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), which requires covered entities to evaluate data security regulations by carrying out a risk assessment, and execute a risk management program to tackle any vulnerabilities identified (Hu, Chen, & Hou, 2010). Another regulation pertains to cybersecurity. The Internet of Medical Things Resilience Partnership Act (2017) requires the hospital to establish a set of centralized guidelines for providers of digital health solutions so as to make sure that cybersecurity is fundamental all through the process of product development (Corbin, 2019). The other regulation is related to the Medical Device Cybersecurity Act of 2017 (Webb & Dayal, 2017). As such, the hospital should ensure that the PHI stored on connected medical devices are secure by augmenting the level of security manufacturers integrate within connected devices.
There is the need for health care management activities to be are supported by the network infrastructure. This network infrastructure is a vital pillar bolstering the central aim of promoting enhanced standards of care and wellbeing for all patients, coupled with a good healthcare system experience. A fully integrated network infrastructure will support management in the delivery of information amongst staff and patients thus leading to the offering of high-quality, sustainable, patient-centered services.
