Gordon’s functional health patterns are organized into 11 categories, and they represent a systematic and standardized approach to data collection.

Gordon’s functional health patterns are as follows:
Health Perception – Health Management Pattern Describes the client’s perception of their health and well-being, as well as how they manage their health.
Nutritional – Metabolic Pattern Describes food and fluid consumption patterns in relation to metabolic need, as well as pattern indicators of local nutrient supply.
Elimination Pattern Describes excretory function patterns (bowel, bladder, and spleen).
Pattern of Activity – Exercise Describes the pattern of exercise, activity, leisure, and recreation.
Cognitive – Perceptual Pattern This pattern describes sensory, perceptual, and cognitive patterns.
Sleep – Rest Pattern Describes sleep, rest, and relaxation patterns.
Self-perception – Self-concept Pattern This pattern describes self-concept and self-perceptions (body comfory, image, feeling state)

Sexuality – Reproductive Pattern Describes the client’s satisfaction and dissatisfaction with their sexuality pattern, as well as their reproductive patterns.
Coping – Stress Tolerance Pattern Describes general coping patterns as well as the pattern’s effectiveness in terms of stress tolerance.
Value – Belief Pattern Describes the pattern of values and beliefs that guide choices or decisions, including spiritual and/or goals.
