• What is your current leadership style? • How does your leadership style impact your decision making in nursing care? • How will you further develop your leadership skills? Nursing leadership refers to the role of nurses in leading and managing nursing care, as well as leading and managing the nursing profession. Effective nursing leadership is essential for the delivery of high-quality healthcare and the advancement of the nursing profession.
The foundation of nursing leadership is built on a strong foundation of nursing knowledge, skills, and values. Nurses who aspire to leadership roles should have a strong understanding of nursing theory, practice, and research, as well as excellent communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. They should also embody the values of the nursing profession, such as compassion, integrity, and respect for diversity.
There are many opportunities for nurses to develop their leadership skills, including through education and training programs, professional organizations, and on-the-job experience. Nurses can also seek out leadership roles within their organizations, such as becoming a charge nurse, nurse manager, or nursing director.
