5. Determine how you accessed the source. Was it a database, website, print, or other? If
you are using a library database, click on database.
6. Each type of access will give you a different screen to choose the type of source. If you
are using a library database, your mostly like choices are Journal, magazine, newspaper,
reference source, or book. Choosing the type of access and the type of material will give
you the correct form to fill out.
7. This example shows the form for a Reference Source from a database. Each database
form has 3 parts. The first part pertains to the database. The second part pertains to
the article, and the third part pertains to the reference source where the article was
found. Other types of sources will have different parts but will be very similar. An
article in a Journal accessed through a database will also have three parts, the database,
article, and journal.
Fill in the name of the database and
the URL. Only use URLs that are
permalinks and will take you to the
article.
Add the date you viewed the article.

8. The second section pertains to the article or reference entry. If there is an author, add
the author’s name. Many times reference articles do not have an author. Look for the
author near the title, at the end of the article, and in the article’s citation information.
9. The third section pertains to the source. In the example below, it is the reference
source, but it could be a journal, magazine, or newspaper in which the article is
published.
10. Click submit and you are done.
TIP: NoodleTools will time out, forcing you to start over. Sometimes it is a good idea to submit
your citation before you finish. You can always go to edit to finish the form.
