Assignment Overview: For this assignment you will discuss your plans for your Family. As you complete this assignment consider what your ideal family structure will be, and how you can take steps to bring your vision to life, also consider what obstacles might prevent you from acquiring the family structure you envision. Please be sure to elaborate on all your responses and address all the sections listed, and type in all black.

i. Family Structure: What do you envision your family structure to be? This means do you plan to be married, have children, have pets, will your parents live with you, and be an active part of your family, etc.

ii. Gender Roles: Do you plan to conform to traditional gender norms with your partner, explain why you will or will not? If you chose yes to this question, explain what gender roles/ norms you plan to conform to and why?

iii. Gender Expectations: Do you think you will have gender expectations when it comes to your children, explain why you would or would not? If you chose yes, please explain what gender expectations you will have for your sons versus daughters?

iv. The household Structure: What do you envision day to day life to be like for your family, explain? Consider things like will you and your husband work, will your kids be homeschooled, will you be a stay at home parent, will your family have weekly Sunday night dinners, will you have date night with your spouse once a month?

v. Guiding Principles/Core Values: What will be the guiding principles/core values of your family, provide at least 3 principles/core values that will instill in your family structure. Really think about this question, as this will be the essence of your family, and heavily shape your children’s upbringing and contribution to society. (Example of a guiding principle/core value: Teaching your children to be kind to all people, regardless of their race or disabilities).

vi. Changing Families: Often times families struggle to successfully transition when their kids return home from college, and the family unit is now an “all adult” family unit. Explain how will you adapt to, and welcome, this changing family unit? Consider things such as; will you expect your adult children to pay rent, will you expect your adults children to work and contribute to the bills, will you be that parent that expects their adult child to still come home at a certain time.

vii. Culture & Traditions: What cultural elements or traditions will you incorporate into your family, explain what the cultural/traditional element is, and why it’s important to incorporate into your family?

viii. Breaking the Cycle: Are there any aspects of your family structure now, that you would change for your future family, explain? (Ex: Think back to our class discussion, think about the people who said their parents didn’t talk to them about sex, and they wished they had. This might be something you would incorporate into your new family unit).

Assignment Overview: Test Elisabeth Kübler-Ross’s five stages of grief. Think of someone or something you have lost. You might consider the loss of a relationship, possession, or aspect of your self-identity. For example, perhaps you dissolved a childhood friendship, sold your car, whatever you identify, it has to be a “loss”. Please type your responses in all black, directly under the questions.
