Describe what specific resources or federal agencies that you will utilize to remain informed and current in public health trends and practices
The healthcare industry is constantly changing as new diseases continue to emerge and new modalities, treatments, and technologies are introduced. As a practice clinician, one must strive to remain up-to-date with such trends to extend the highest quality of care. By remaining current, you get the opportunity to improve your skills and knowledge base, which is a primary contributor to better patient outcomes. Different institutes can help clinicians remain current with public health trends and practices, but federal agencies are the most reliable.
The specific federal agencies that I intend to use to remain current are the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), The National Institute of Health (NIH), and the U.S Department of Health and Human Recourses (HHS)
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) acts as the lead nation’s agency in protecting Americans from all sorts of health threats, including all types of diseases regardless of whether they are curable or incurable, infectious or not, or whether they start from within the country or outside. CDC accomplishes its missions by identifying and defining health problems, keeping close surveillance on a given health threat, conducting critical science, collecting and analyzing data, and disseminating information to protect people from health hazards.
The National Institute of Health (NIH) is the U.S. leading medical research agency. NIH has completed successful research projects and made significant discoveries that have improved the health and saved the lives of many Americas. NIH identifies projects, launches research, and ensures that the findings get to the hands of health care professionals who can use the findings to maximize the research benefits to better the lives of Americans.
The U.S Department of Health and Human resources (HHS) is an agency of the federal government and the largest civilian department tasked with protecting and enhancing the health and well-being of the American people. It accomplishes this goal by providing effective health and essential human services to every citizen and particularly to underprivileged individuals and families. HHS works closely with federal and local governments to provide funding programs for the people.
For instance, HHS’s Medicare program is the largest health insurer in the U.S, receiving more than one billion medical claims every year. Besides overseeing the implementation of various health and welfare programs, HHS also supports the collection and analysis of health data and promotes improvement in the delivery of treatment in health care and outside healthcare settings.
