Having progressed through Themes 2 and 3 Learning guides of the unit, you will have an improved your knowledge of cardiovascular and respiratory theoretical content.
The purpose of this assessment is to provide you with the opportunity to demonstrate your understanding of this content using a analysis of care format. Having progressed through the learning guides in themes 2 and 3 of the subject you will have an improved your knowledge of cardiovascular and respiratory theoretical content.
You are required to choose a person in your care who presented with a interrelated respiratory and cardiac presentation. For eg. patient with heart failure or post cardiac surgery. Submit a written discussion and analysis of that person’s clinical presentation, your clinical nursing assessment and management.
In your discussion, critically reflect on the care provided in relation to current literature and evidence. Should you have any concerns or problems with patient selection, please contact the unit tutor/coordinator.
In your written discussion and analysis:
• Describe the patient and their presentation, including relevant past medical/ surgical history, risk factors and clinical manifestations.
• Analyse the relationship of cardiac and respiratory systems including pathophysiological links. • Describe the patient and how they look, including any relevant medical or surgical history, risk factors, and signs and symptoms.
• Look at how the heart and lungs work together, including any pathophysiological links.
• Discuss the specific interventions/ management for this person, both pharmacological and non- pharmacological, with rationales for managing the condition with reference to contemporary evidence
• Critically appraise your role (strengths and weaknesses) and the role of the multidisciplinary team while providing care.
