DB 2 Directions:
Write at least one paragraph for each of the thesis statements you created for Discussion Board 1. Do all of your drafting and revision of your paragraphs outside of BB. Finally, come back to this DB forum and post (copy and paste) each of your paragraph responses as a single DB posting.
Paragraphs Defined (What Paragraphs Do):
Every paragraph has a specific focus. The main idea or focus for each of your Discussion Board 2 paragraphs is the thesis statement you wrote for Discussion Board 1.
Adequate Support: every paragraph needs enough sentences to develop fully the main idea. You can and likely will have more than one paragraph in support of each thesis statement (because a thesis is both a conclusion and why the conclusion you come to is important to you) so you need enough sentences (12-15 lines per paragraph) to fully develop both parts of the thesis statement.
Do not just give examples or mention ideas and move on without explaining HOW WHY or in WHAT way your ideas or examples explain or support the thesis. Ask questions about the ideas and examples you come up with: HOW, WHY, in WHAT way does this or that idea establish or flesh out what I am saying? Use your answers to develop your paragraphs. Ask and answer as many questions as needed to come up with information that helps you explain as deeply as you can about your main idea. The tighter your connections between your examples/ideas and what you say in support, the fewer examples and ideas you need in support overall.
Conclusion Summary of Main Idea): When you have completely discussed (fully developed your thinking) on your topic, paraphrase (repeat in different words) the main ideas. Use the conclusion as a transition (words or phrases that hook/connect ideas) when there is more than one paragraph in support of the main idea.
What Paragraphs Are Not:
Random sentences, having little or no connection, from one sentence to the next
Rambling ideas with no clear focus or connection back to the main idea you are trying to support, or undeveloped ideas that assume your reader knows exactly what the ideas mean.
Laundry list examples or ideas without explanation as to HOW WHY or in WHAT way those ideas support or tie into the main idea.
