Books to Support Learning Development

How Horrid Henry’s Birthday Party Supports Holistic Learning in Early Childhood.

Book title: Horried Henry’s Birthday Party.

Book title: Horrible Henry’s Birthday Party
The task that I am assigning for you will provide detailed information about how the resource (book) will benefit the learning and the growth of children. There will also be some talking about theories and how those theory helps the social development of children. The chosen book for review is a story book titled Horrid Henry birthday Party. Written by Franscesca Simon in 2009 and illustrated by Tony Ross. Published at one time as a single story inHORRID HENRY AND THE SECRET CLUB and is also available in audio.

If a child learns something new then he is building up his store of backgrounds knowledge of things that they didn’t knew before, it builds up their confident, self-esteem, and moreover it helps them to do well in school or even at home. You teach them different techniques and strategies yeah this is just a resource that was built specifically to help children at their learning, and development because all children learn. As she is also talking about books and children, according to her mostly children who read books regularly tend to have increased knowledge of things they may not be aware about, because reading is one of the best exercise for our minds. Reading books is better than doing other stuffs such as watching TV and etc. The more books children read, they’re more better in their concentration and also reading regularly as growing up, it helps them in order to develop or again gain more abilities doing things for a longer time period.

The story’s plot is simple: Henry misbehaves at his last birthday party, after which his parents decide he will never have another one. When Henry’s birthday rolls around again, they give him one more shot. We also worked out having the party away from home at Lazer Zap, although it was slightly expensive but at least we would not have mess done inside the house. All’s well until Henry’s dad declares the book the place for the birthday party; alas, he learns Henry has been banned for life from Lazer Zap so he ends up having a party at home, as it turns out. So it came as no surprise when everything began to go wrong at the party; the wrong presents, the wrong party games, the wrong prizes and even the wrong food. But with Henry around things could not remain gloomy and discouraging for long. He runs off to fetch his water gun, then gives his parents and guests a rather wet shock.

Children, especially those between the age of four to six years old, are very active, loud, and emotional. This is dynamics that is quite normal; sometimes they are not still and they could be quite handful: conversing most of or not doing what they are told and appears tireless. Such behaviour is more common among boys. In the story of Horrid Henry’s birthday the boy waits eager for his birthday party and plans carefully what type of presents it should be and who to invite, While this can be an extremely devasting thing for parent to have to go through. Meanwhile, his parents make arrangements as to where the party should be held while worrying about the ramifications of Henry’s anticipated misbehaviour. Early childhood is not only a time of incredible physical growth; it is also a time of amazing cognitive growth. (Frenchman Jean Piaget) Cognitive association with memory reasoning problem solving and thinking gradually emerge throughout childhood. There are many characteristics family, environment, emotional and situations upon each a child learning development is based. Parents are usually the first persons the child interacts with. The research shows that theory of mind and emotion understanding are directly related aspects of parenting. In fact, theory of mind research has specifically studied the significance of variables such as attachment, parenting style, and discipline. Bowlby (1982) argued that secure attachments foster a basis whereby children come to understand their caretaker’s point of view, (and thus a child can discriminate discrepancies between his/her and his/her caretaker’s point of view. Relationships develop with brothers and or sisters and other children beyond the immediate family during early childhoods Generally, the probability that environmental and parental influence have impact on a childbirth are very high. The environment is not some independent thing that is enacting itself on people. Forced into certain spaces, some elements of nature and the environment can have an impact on people in ways they may not be able to control.

However, most properties of the environment only serve as influences when they have been activated by adequate behaviour. According to previews research, parent-child relationship plays a vital role in children development. It needs be considered for individual differences in early social-cognitive performance. I think horrid Henry’s birthday story is a very good opportunity for any child and parents and also relation to discuss good and bad behaviour. One of the most important aspect to a child growth and development is relationship between parents and young children. In the early years parents are in the centre of a young child’s universe. The attachment relationship that a child develops with his parents helps form connections associated with language, thinking, behaviours and emotions. Horrid Henry birthday story shows parents should also get correct attitude towards their child behaviour as because of parent’s reliability the their son’s birthday was not so efficient. They began complaining about where the birthday was at and how much it would have to be when the child mentioned the upcoming birthday, so when everything began falling apart at the party, it was no surprise.

Family systems theory (Minuchin & Fishman, 1981) suggests that external influences on the parent may also impact the parent–child dynamic. For example, parental stress might emerge as major driver of both adaptive, and maladaptive, child development. For instance, parent suffering high levels of stress, mainly from economic difficulties, normally are less responsive and affectionate with their children. This indicate that parenting stress can impacts negatively to a child’s social cognitive development (Cole and Mitchell, 1998).

As development continues, so does the child’s web of relationships, where teachers, classmates, neighbours, and so on become an integral part of social development. The first and foremost thing that could influence a child behaviour and decision making is Parent’s behaviour. Children memory works similar to the recorders, they record what people around them do and say, and reproduce it word by word. As mentioned in part of Horrid Henry’s birthday story, it makes the children think about friendship, plus helping them understand how important is socializing with other kids. In childhood, friendships begin as bona fide relationships built on fun. As friendships grow up, they become a more abstract thing; they become based on mutual improving reflections of themselves, on psychological pats on the back. And one of the reason in Horrid Henry story first thing he has done is judge his friends and choose who is going to be invited to the party and who not. He finds out all his friends names were crossed which means he has no guest and no presents.

This is a reminder that friendships play a significant role throughout the lie. Children are not born with social skills, attractiveness, mental or physical friendliness; friendships offer many important functions including companionship, stimulation, and physical and affection. The function of each of these is of varying importance at certain points in development. Some theorists see the progression of friendships much like other aspects of human development, passing through predictable progressive stages. Stage one friendship — for children ages four to six — is based on physical or geographical considerations, and is somewhat self-centered. A friend is a playmate who actually lives next door, and has toys. There are little or no understanding personality traits at this stage. Stage two focuses on children between ages seven to nine or younger in which during this stage children start to be aware of others and notion of being ‘rough’ is starting to develop.
Friendship is absolutely critical for children, no question. This saying has been evidenced in many researches too – more than half the children referred for emotional or behavioural problems have no friends or have difficulty with peers. Friendships also help a child to develop social skills; how to be sensitive to another’s point of view, how to engage in conversation with others and learn gender and age appropriate behaviours.

They also help provide the definitions of self, and self-worth. Peer students are also a strong influence on a child’s positive and negative academic achievement and may additionally motivate, or deter, deviant behaviour, including delinquency or drug use. Children who have good friends have higher self-esteem than children who do not have friends. They also report less loneliness and act more pro social. They are more able to handle life stresses and normal transitions and are also less victimized by peers. In contrast, children with cross sex friends, as a collective group are better adjusted, have more social skills than group of children who only have same sex friends. As a parent, you should remember that is while friendships tend to follow a somewhat predictable order of development and progression, not all children develop at the same rate of time and delays do not always spell a problem as in other areas of physical, cognitive or social-emotional development. Moreover, parents thinking that their children’s inclination towards playing alone instead of socially receiving visitors might mean loneliness and try to force friends on them may be making a wrong presumption. As bourgeois as friends are — Like their adult versions, kids may very much enjoy, or resist and opt out of, social activities. Even as children, it’s important to draw the line between feeling lonely and wanting to be alone. Children, like adults, require solitary space to develop and mature and reflect on what their day has offered them — and gave them a chance to offer.

If we can sort of look closer on the story of Horrid Henry birthday story, you might know about the financial state of the family. So family income seems to have an effective effect on child development. Even casual observers observe that — the children of rich parents do better in life than children of poor parents. For example, compared to rich children, persistent differences in the cognitive and psycho-social skills of poor children begin as early as 6 months, poor children:score lower than their richer peers on measures of cognitive skill in early childhood;have more behaviour problems both at school and at home;is much more likely to drop out of high school; even if graduates they are unlikely to go to college and more likely to drop out of it;more likely to give birth as teenagers; is more likely to be poor themselves when they grow up. The most straightforward explanation of this disparity is that wealthy parents can spend more than poor parents on their children, and that those “investments” result in better outcomes for their children. Such intuition aligned well with policymakers’ desires for simple solutions to poverty and its putative correlates: If poor children fail because their parents cannot make enough monetary investments in their futures, government can improve the life chances of poor children by offering families the means to make the investments or, directz0p by providing the investments in the form of schooling, health care, and other human capital in- puts (Mayer 2010)

But the relationship between family poverty and child well-being isn’t necessarily simply explained by poor parent investment in children: Other parent characteristics related to their poverty have been blamed, particularly parent education and marital status. Parental behaviour or culture, as well as other environment characteristics, have also been implicated. These justifications advocate for something other than income support to enhance children’s well-being when they become adults.
Sociability, which is one of the three dimensions of temperament discussed by Buss and Plomin (1984), along with emotionally and activity, is postulated to be present at birth and inherited. If the environment in which human live is not a stable structure which necessarily impose to personality. When movement is limited, aspects of the physical and social environment may exert a certain influence on individuals, for better or for worse. However, the wide range of factors in the environment do not become drivers until they have been triggered by suitable behaviours. For example lectures don’t affect students unless they come. That is, within social cognitive theory, individuals are not simply driven by internal forces or; in contrast, passively shaped and determined by environment. As we have already seen, they act as contributors to their own motivation, behaviour and development interms of a network of reciprocally interacting influences. In this theoretical view, persons are defined by their number of core competencies.

There is another aspect on which this book is interesting, most probably regarding the illustrations. In fact, children even learn by looking at images. A picture can hold children to make the story clear to them in despite of reading it, and this is also useful for struggling readers. They can analyse the story, they can be part of what went on in the classroom. These pictures aid and inspire children’s creativity. To quote one researcher: picture books also aids in the development of the concept of cause and effect. These books pique children’s interest in the lesson. This is the reason Segun (1988) stated that “Illustrations are literature in their own right and whether used alone or in context with written texts, they sharpen the perception of children, stimulate their imagination and heighten their sense of observation. Good illustrations can help with children’s overall development.” Children can see themselves and be aware of their cultural identity through illustrations. Jelongo (2004) similarly argues that teachers who devote time to reading picture books cultivate the literacy identity of their students who become literate adults capable of decoding written words and engaging in reading.
It can also provide excuses for role play or class parties for kids. So Interesting! Horrid Henry complete birthday kit for party preparing kids by other authors.
