Assignment: Evidence-Based Practice and the Quadruple Aim

Assignment: Evidence-Based Practice and the Quadruple Aim
Healthcare organizations continually seek to optimize healthcare performance. For years, this approach was a three-pronged one known as the Triple Aim, with efforts focused on improved population health, enhanced patient experience, and lower healthcare costs.
More recently, this approach has evolved to a Quadruple Aim by including a focus on improving the work life of healthcare providers. Each of these measures are impacted by decisions made at the organizational level, and organizations have increasingly turned to EBP to inform and justify these decisions.
To Prepare:
• Read the articles by Sikka, Morath, & Leape (2015); Crabtree, Brennan, Davis, & Coyle (2016); and Kim et al. (2016) provided in the Resources.
• Reflect on how EBP might impact (or not impact) the Quadruple Aim in healthcare.
• Consider the impact that EBP may have on factors impacting these quadruple aim elements, such as preventable medical errors or healthcare delivery.
To Complete:
Write a brief analysis (no longer than 2 pages) of the connection between EBP and the Quadruple Aim.
Your analysis should address how EBP might (or might not) help reach the Quadruple Aim, including each of the four measures of:
• Patient experience
• Population health
• Costs
• Work life of healthcare providers

Evidence-Based Practice

Introduction
According to Schmidt & Brown (2017) evidence –based practice is the integration of personal clinical expertise with up to date available data. It improves the work life of healthcare workers, decrease care costs, improve population health and also enhance the patient experience including the satisfaction and quality. Current research shows that despite of health workers having positive attitudes and adequate knowledge towards EBP, they still face many obstacles in putting it into practice. Quadruple aims can be achieved through the following;
Continuous education programs on up to date research
This will improve the work life of nurses for they will be able to provide care with confident hence win their patients trust (Sikka, Morath & Leape, 2015). Through continuous education the nurses’ skills and knowledge are enhanced and therefore they become competent and provide improved quality of care
Availability of adequate resources and tools for point –of-care
Availability of enough resources ensures that EBP is planned for, and its budget is also prepared in advance (Sikka, Morath & Leape, 2015). The cost of care will decrease because the communicable and comorbid diseases are cared for improving the populations health.
Collaboration between nurses, their leaders and other health providers
Lack of resistance on EBP among health providers improves the quality of care since they will all be ready to learn about up to date data (Townsend & Morgan, 2017). This will change their attitudes and misperceptions towards the current research improving their lives as health providers. They will also be ready to know what it entails and therefor they will practice it.
modern politics and policies that support research
With the availability of cultures and environments that support EPB there will be improved care for every individual will see its importance (Schmidt & Brown, 2017). This will facilitate to its achievement because patients will share their experiences in terms of care quality and satisfaction thus motivating health providers to use it
Availability of enough Evidence-based practice mentors
Presence of mentors in each health care will ensure that the current data is employed while care is provided (Townsend & Morgan, 2017). This will result into improved patient outcomes thus satisfying the patients.
