Analyze the Task and Ga essay
ou will use the selected lesson plan to analyze the tasks and the gap between the ELs and the tasks. If you choose to analyze your own lesson plan, make sure it includes the following components: the description of how background knowledge is activated, step-by-step instructions, interaction, assessment. Copy/paste the lesson plan you selected into the assignment template: I will need to see what you are analyzing. Indicate the References in addition to (not instead of) the lesson plan. Keep this lesson plan – you will use it again to complete the Modified Lesson Plan assignment.
2. Download the Template for Analyze the Task and Gap discussion.docx
3. Copy and paste lesson segments containing instructional verbs from the original lesson plan directions, instructions, or procedures (not objectives) into the template for this assignment.
A lesson segment could be
a numbered step in the directions, instructions, procedures or task in the lesson plan (Step 1, Step 2, etc.)
a part of the lesson plan such as Introduction, Explain Content, Explain Task, Background Knowledge, Vocabulary Building, Group Work, Ask Questions, Practice, Independent Work, Review, Assessment, etc.)
Each lesson segment must be in a separate row. Bold TREAD verbs and underline SLIDE verbs.
4. Analyze each task for SLIDE and TREAD. Provide a description of the types of verbs for each lesson segment from the first column. For example, “This independent practice segment of the lesson includes many TREAD verbs, such as read, write, explain, and justify, and there are very few SLIDE verbs, such as show, demonstrate, and display, to provide nonverbal context.”
5. Next, analyze the gaps:
-Identify potential classroom communication gap issues for Edith – Beginner (the tasks she would not be able to complete without support) in your lesson plan. Analyze the gaps in the third column.
-Identify potential classroom communication gap issues for Edgar – Intermediate (the tasks he would not be able to complete without support) in your lesson plan. Analyze the gaps in the third column.
-Identify potential classroom communication gap issues for Tasir –Advanced (the tasks she would not be able to complete without support) in your lesson plan. Analyze the gaps in the third column.
When identifying the gaps, you can use language from this chart Examples of Gaps across Levels.docx
6. Save the completed template as a Word document and attach it to your discussion post.
7. Submit your post by Tuesday, 2/2, 11:00 p.m.
8. Examine the analysis of tasks and gaps completed by your classmates and respond to one of them with substantive comments. Substantive means to briefly remind us (paraphrase) what was said/found; then, include details to support or question the other person’s idea(s) and support your own idea(s).
Important:
-SLIDE/TREAD are acronyms where each letter must be capitalized. Points will be deducted for each incorrect use of these acronyms.
– For SLIDE/TREAD analysis, use the verbs from the Directions/Instructions (not the Objectives) section of the lesson plan.
