Analysis of a Special Occasion Speech

Analysis of a Special Occasion Speech

Instructions:

In this unit, you discovered different types of special occasion speeches, such as a speech of introduction, a speech that presents an award, a speech to accept an award, a speech of dedication, a toast, a roast, an after-dinner speech, a eulogy, or a motivational speech.

In your initial post, recall a time when you gave a special occasion speech, or you saw one being given. You could also locate one online (for example, an Academy Award acceptance speech). In your post, please include the following:

Who gave the speech?

What was the special occasion? What was the setting?

How did the speaker use emotion to connect with the audience?

Evaluate the delivery. What did you notice that was effective about the delivery? Could anything have been improved?

Is there anything you would recommend the speaker do better the next time?

What advice do you have for any speaker who is experiencing anxiety before delivering their speech?

Peer response for speech

Respond meaningfully to at least one of your peers. In the response post, include the following:

How was your peer’s special occasion speech different than yours?

Consider their recommendations on how to improve the speech. Know that you have read your peer’s advice, is there anything you would change in the suggestions you provided in the initial post?

Consider the advice on how to handle anxiety. How can you use this to manage your own anxiety?

student to respons to for speech:

I recently had the privilege of attending a wedding ceremony and reception where I witnessed a special occasion speech. My brother and his now-wife were getting married, so I was particularly invested in the proceedings. The bride’s father gave the speech. The special occasion was the wedding ceremony and reception of my brother and his wife. The setting was a small venue with a beautiful lake view and trees. The audience was comprised of family and close friends; the atmosphere was intimate and joyful.

The bride’s father used emotion to connect with the audience in several ways. He began by expressing his gratitude for the opportunity to witness his daughter and son-in-law’s union. He shared a few amusing anecdotes about his daughter and future son-in-law. He also shared some heartfelt words of advice for the newlyweds. His delivery was conversational and informal, keeping the audience engaged with his warm and humorous tone.

I noticed that the delivery effectively kept the audience’s attention throughout the speech, and his words were genuine and heartfelt. He also used humor to lighten the mood. The only thing that could have been improved was the occasional pauses, which felt awkward. If the speaker had to give the speech again, I recommend practicing it beforehand to ensure that he is comfortable with it and that the pauses are smooth. I would also recommend that he makes sure to make eye contact with the audience, as this helps to engage the listener.

For any speaker feeling anxious before delivering their speech, take some deep breaths and focus on the message you want to convey. It’s also helpful to practice the speech beforehand and ensure you are familiar with the content. Lastly, don’t be afraid to show your emotions. This will help the audience to connect with you and the message that you are conveying. Overall, delivering a special occasion speech can be a daunting experience, but with some practice and preparation, it can be a rewarding experience for both the speaker and the audience.

#2 Microbiology disscusion post and reply

Antibodies

Instructions

Antibodies have been used in drug development in targeting specific tissues and part of the normal humoral immune response. Recently, new anti-cancer antibodies have been developed as a new type of chemotherapy agent.

Identify a disease and describe how you could design a “drug” based on an antibody.

Describe how this drug could enhance the immune response.

Explain why this could be an effective treatment for that disease.

Identify both, advantages and disadvantages, to this strategy.

Please be sure to validate your opinions and ideas with citations and references in APA format.

Peer response for microbiology

In the response post, include the following:

How do you determine if the drug will work?

How could the drug be improved?

If a family member has this disease, would you recommend them to take this drug? Why or why not?

Student to respond to :

The disease that I chose to focus on is the Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV). This type of disease is more commonly found in children and is one of the leading causes of respiratory tract infections. In children, RSV can lead to bronchiolitis or pneumonia. There are currently two drugs approved for this particular virus, ribavirin, and palivizumab. While both of these drugs are effective in treating both contain extensive side effects. Creating a drug that directly attacks the pathogens affecting the airways and lungs would be an effective alternative, as ribavirin attacks mainly liver infections and hepatitis c, and palivizumab protects against complications of RSV but not against RSV itself. The type of drug that would work best against RSV would be one containing IgD antibodies. IgDs are known to prevent respiratory tract illnesses and signal the activation of B cells to kickstart the immune system. The immune systems of children is weak compared to adults, it has also been noted that children born today have weaker immune systems due to social distancing during the pandemic. Designing a drug using IgD is not a magical fix for RSV but when paired with other measures such as a yearly flu vaccine and covid vaccine, the chances of developing RSV or sever respiratory issues go down as well.
