• Click “Zoom to State(s)” and type in your state. Then click “Zoom to County(s)” and type in your county to navigate to your area on the interactive web map tool.
• Find the “selector tool” in the upper left corner of map (drop down menu).
• Use the selector tool to outline an area around your community (rectangle or circle are the easiest selectors to capture the tract area).
• Once the area is selected, the charts and lists under the map window populate with content about air quality risk level in the selected tract.
• If you need to redo the selection, then click the ‘x’ in the upper left of the map window by the number of tracts selected (will only appear after tract(s) are selected). The “x” clears the data so that you can reselect another tract.
• Observe the Tract Location Data, Risk by Air Toxic, Risk by Source Type, and Facility Emissions for the location you selected. You may want to use this information as you create your video.

• Discuss the following about the air quality in your chosen area using the information in the “Tract Location Data” window.
• Select “location” tab at the bottom of the “Tract Location Data” window. Describe the following in discussion:
• County, State
• EPA Region
• Total Risk (cancer and noncancer health effects per million people)
• Select “Source” tab at the bottom of the “Tract Location Data” window.
• List “Point Risk” (single identifiable source for pollution) tract contribution
• List “Non-point” Risk (many, non-identifiable sources for pollution) tract contribution
• Select the “Air Toxic ” tab of the “Tract Location Data” window:
• List the top three toxics (Risk score per million people by air toxic)
• Summarize the threats to the population using the “Risks by Air Toxic” chart. (Make sure to associate risk to specific chemical compounds and percentages)
• Explain the “Risk by Source Type” (Include whether risk is primary or secondary).
• Explain the “Facility Emissions” (Include the polluter and the emissions amount in tons)
• Explain the importance of presenting these issues to the community.
• Discuss the following:
• Discuss any local regulations or policies that have been created in response to this challenge.
• Discuss how these actions represent the changes in the air quality near the source of emissions.
• Support your critique by using at least 2 sources from the University Library, reputable environmental groups, or government websites.
