This essay should consider the past and present impact of colonisation and the contemporary perception of social work services among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders. Considering for example concepts of power, white privilege, racism, their influences and how they impact social work practice. Reflect upon how the lessons from the past can be applied to future engagement/relationships with Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islander peoples, for example (but not exclusive to), practicing cultural responsiveness, self-awareness, and by decolonising social work practice.
