The hospital experienced an influx in the ICU and emergency room sections during the week. During this time, practitioners were preoccupied with patients and other assigned healthcare duties, leaving little or no time for rest. We were offered an extra shift to complete various assigned duties due to the low number of free staff who could have assisted various sections. This articulated the aspect of nurses providing effective services despite work overload. As a result, the overall performance of the healthcare institution suffers, as does patient satisfaction, negatively affecting nurses.
The outcome pushed the organization’s requirements for a virtual ICU when the number of patients in intensive care became overwhelming, necessitating the need for more working staff. A healthcare practitioner would virtually obtain assistance from another in a different location, recommending assistance in such critical situations (Broome et al., 20202). The ease of the overwhelming state becomes apparent, resulting in medical errors. This allows healthcare providers to adjust their minds to give their best while relying on an extra pair of hands to supervise their actions. This would boost their performance and serve as a motivator for the entire healthcare team.
Leadership Application
The healthcare work environment is critical in ensuring that other healthcare practitioners feel confident and at ease while performing their duties. As a nurse leader, her role will necessitate adequate supervision of task assignments, so she will rely on the rest of the healthcare team to work efficiently (Li et al., 2016). Leaders will have faith and hope in their employees if they give them equal opportunities to use their skills and help patients. This, on the other hand, will allow all other healthcare nurses to learn how to use their skills in the healthcare organization with minimal supervision. In all of these roles, I will need to demonstrate excellent leadership skills to ensure a smooth operation by delegating duties and making sound decisions, which will aid in the development of necessary skills. Actively listening to other healthcare practitioners will allow for the improvement of healthcare services, resulting in a good healthcare sector.
The majority of the continuing education consists of reading, watching films, and conducting interviews with caseworkers and dietitians who work at an acute inpatient rehabilitation center. My preceptor and I are discussing the challenges that leaders and nurse managers face as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak by reviewing the Magnet Recognition program “The Functional Role of Nursing Administrator.” She also emphasizes the problems with the staff nurses, particularly those who were unable to arrive at work due to transportation issues and were provided with hotel rooms. By bringing these issues to light, she establishes herself as a trustworthy leader. Nursing was founded by the preceptor, who raised major concerns such as ethics, communication, attentiveness, compassion, and joint judgments.
Preparation of a Practicum Project
My personal experience report from before and after the practicum is used to analyze the outcomes of the practicum project. Project success will be determined by a preceptor’s ability to inspire and motivate a student to become a servant-leader in terms of personal growth in the nursing profession. My mentor’s evaluation of my background and contribution revealed her ability to demonstrate credibility and leadership skills during the practicum and through ongoing online learning. These activities are long-lasting because they create a safe environment for a nurse practitioner to build patient- and group trust, which can be assessed and assured through technical practice (Li et al., 2016).
This practicum project’s objectives extend beyond simply gaining knowledge and experience in nursing practice in a real-world setting. The central concept is to develop servant leadership in order to guide medical teams and patients toward mutual trust and patient-centered care. Following the completion of the research, a variety of measuring techniques will be used to evaluate the viability of the findings. Patient surveys, contact with patients and coworkers, comprehension of nursing standards during the catastrophic global crisis, and judgment abilities are all part of this. Nurses must be prepared for any challenges that may arise, as well as understand how to create a culture of care that is focused on support, connection with patients, and education.
Reflection on Leadership Video
In this video, Darryl DelHousaye, president and professor of theory and practice at Phoenix Seminary, discusses the power and concept of servant leadership. Servant leadership, he claims, is “formed by the actual model of Jesus Christ.” DelHousaye defines the underlying principle of leadership as influence, based on the variety of adjectives used to describe it. It can have a positive or negative impact on whether or not a leader is effective. Personality and management style are inextricably linked. In order to establish a distinct leadership style, the professor discusses seven key qualities of servant leadership. This video taught me two things: the nature of power and how to use it effectively.
The first characteristic is the concept of power, which refers to the ability to perform actions that have the potential to influence others. According to DelHousaye, it is the ability to wield power. More importantly, the critical component of such influence is something that followers would seek in a leader, someone they would aspire to be like, or something that one must supply. The issue of authority is particularly important in the nursing profession because a top physician can provide patients and staff with a wealth of knowledge and experience (Broome et al., 20202). The professor suggests that people who are familiar with my personality and character conduct an examination of power and control principles. DelHousaye’s examination of the leadership dilemma in the context of Christianity is fascinating. He advises you to investigate how God uses you in the lives of people who are related to you. This means that a leader’s influence is influenced by his or her life, contacts with family and friends, and work environment just as much as the leader himself. Cohesive collaboration in nursing ensures a leader’s ability to perceive and wield authority.
