The principles applied by psychologists in their research works covers the best interest of the participants involved. Such principles include but not limited to respect, justice and integrity. Guidelines are provided on how to conduct studies (American Psychological Association, 2012).
Pros and cons of the study. The Milgram’s studies major advantage was the application of the debrief principle. He exhaustively explained at the conclusions the details of the study to the participants. The important part of the principle is to embrace the ethical validity which enables the participants to make informed decision. On the other hand, the main disadvantage of the studies was conduction of the research in the laboratory thus not resembling the behavior in the real world. The psychological experiments have proved that the human desire of conformity may lead to mistrust of people’s own ability and may end up causing blindness to others from a single blind individual. Moreover, it may induce harm to the defenseless (Films for the Humanities & Sciences, 2009).
