Identify important supporting details presented by the author to support the main idea. Offer suggestions for additional reading strategies that could help your classmates. Keeps the conversation going by adding to what your classmates have already written by asking questions or sharing related experiences.Review a sample student Discussion Board post .EXAMPLE:James Nestor wrote the article “A Conversation With Whales,” in the New York Times. In this article James Nestor is writing about his experience with Fabrice Schnöller and there free dive in the ocean to record close-up audio data of sperm whales passing one another coda clicks which is the whales way of communicating with each other. I believe the intended audience for this article are free divers and biology scientists.Because sperm whales are one of the largest predators most research on their communication is done from a boat. The purpose of the article is to give an inside look at the author free dive into the ocean to get audio from sperm whales which is not considered the safest way. But the author wants to prove that free diving is the best option for studying the behavior and communication of whales. When researchers study the sperm whales from a boat they can analyze their clicks but can’t see how the whales change in response to those clicks and that plays a major role in how they communicate. But free diving is silent and allows for researchers to record a clear audio signal of whale vocalizations.I think the article was successful in accomplishing the purpose of why free diving is better when trying to get the coda clicks of the sperm whale. They were able to use audio and video rigs that allowed them to record their encounters and see the sperm whales. That help them determine which whale was clicking to whom and how the whale responded. When reading the article I took the analytical reading approach. Because I am a fast reader and lately have been struggling with retaining information this approach helped me to slow down. by doing this I was able to really get a feel of the purpose of the article. I was able to take in the what the author wrote about the sperm whales and the history he gave about them. Overall this help me to read an article that I really didn’t have that much interest in starting out.
