Family Nurse Practitioner
As a family nurse practitioner, concepts of communication and collaboration within the multidisciplinary healthcare team are very significant in my daily practice (Blais, 2015). The role of family nurse practitioners is to provide care to patients from childhood to adulthood except for surgery practices.
Effective communication acts a pillar to build trust between patients and the nurse, and also between the nurse and the healthcare organization the nurse belongs. Communication between patient-nurse helps the nurse to understand all the underlying conditions of illness during diagnosis hence facilitating effective treatment and general healthcare. Effective communication will help the nurse understand the family history, and lifestyle which may affects their health. Communication between the healthcare provider and the health organization ensures that the nurse is performing according to organizational guidelines to avoid errors and procedures that may implicate the organization, in a case like mine where I belong to an organization.
Teamwork plays a significant role in ensuring patient safety and quality outcome. Collaboration across the multidisciplinary healthcare team enables us members in the attainment of our organizational goal (Hartgerink et al., 2014). In the case where I need to refer my client to surgery, I must provide the precise diagnosis made, patient history, and any medical conditions of the patient that may interfere with treatment. Teamwork also includes involving the patients and their kin in the healthcare process. Allowing the patients to participate makes them feel more responsible for their health.
In conclusion, teamwork and effective communication if applied across the healthcare profession lead to both patient and my satisfaction also as a family nurse practitioner (Körner, Wirtz, Bengel, & Göritz, 2015). Teamwork results in effective communication and vice-versa and hence the two concepts must be used during provision of care to achieve the set goals.
