Assignment 2 : Psychology in the News

Assignment 2 : Psychology in the News
The main purpose of this assignment is to encourage you to relate some of the concepts studied in this
psychology course to everyday life.
Select 4 long current-events articles (a page or more in length) from the news related to topics discussed in
forensic psychology. These articles are supposed to be just that – recent news articles from 2021-2022 – not
blogs, postings, textbook exerts or fact sheets.
These articles should relate to different concepts/chapters/modules (e.g., one relating to personality
disorders, one relating to motivation, one relating to prejudice, etc.) Do not use the same course content
in more than one commentary (e.g., do not include content relating to prejudice in your answer for article
1 and then do the same in article 3)
For each article, write a report including the following information (please use subheadings to keep
things organized):
1. Topic of the article (do NOT give me the title – write a sentence about what the topic is) *about one
sentence*
2. Reason for choosing the article (do not just tell you think it’s interesting, you need to go into detail as to
why you chose it) *about one to two sentences*
3. A summary (YOUR OWN WORDS) of the content of the article (make sure you cite and reference
the author of the article) *about one long paragraph*
4. A summary (YOUR OWN WORDS) of what your course sources say about the topic (make sure you
cite and reference your source) *about two paragraphs*
5. A commentary on how the article illustrates concepts from your course sources, or adds information to
that given in the course sources (again, in your own words please and make sure you cite and reference. 1. The article’s topic (don’t give me the title; write a sentence about what the topic is). *About one sentence* 2. Why you chose this article (don’t just say it’s interesting; explain why you chose it in detail). *About one to two sentences*
3. A summary (IN YOUR OWN WORDS) of what the article is about (make sure to include the author’s name) *about one long paragraph*
4. A summary (IN YOUR OWN WORDS) of what your course sources say about the topic (make sure you cite and reference your source) *about two paragraphs
*
5. A comment on how the article illustrates ideas from your course sources or adds to the information in your course sources (please use your own words and make sure to cite and reference).
where appropriate). Here is where you relate the news articles to what you’re learning in the course.
*about two to three paragraphs*
EXAMPLES OF NEWS SITES INCLUDE WWW.CTV.CA ; WWW.CNN.COM ; WWW.CBC.CA ; yahoo
news; google news; etc.
***THE NEWS ARTICLES MUST BE FROM 2021 OR 2022***
***COURSE SOURCES ONLY – You don’t need to have the textbook to be successful in this assignment,
although obviously you can use it. Information found in the course lecture videos is more than sufficient to
complete this assignment properly if you weren’t able to purchase the textbook***
Sample news article from 2021 (do not use this one) –
Police ethics commission slams two Montreal officers for racial profiling | Montreal Gazette
REQUIREMENTS
– Include information from the course (course notes/videos and
text if you have it – but course lectures are sufficient)
– Include citations IN TEXT and references at the end in a
separate section (again, even if you use your own words,
which is encouraged, you still MUST cite throughout your
paper)
– Submit copies of your articles – copy and paste them into your
assignment at the end
– Have an APA 7th ed. title page and complete the entire
assignment in APA 7th ed. style (citations and refs too)
– Once again, this is an individual assignment that you are doing
on your own – you should have your own articles and your
own commentaries (do not use the same articles as friends)
– Use material from different parts of the course/text – i.e., do
not read and comment on articles all from one subject area
– Submit your assignment online – via Slate- PDF FORMAT.
– Length will be about 6-8 pages of content double-spaced (so,
8-10 pages total with title page and references, excluding the
articles themselves)
***FAILURE TO CITE YOUR SOURCES IN-TEXT AND
REFERENCE YOUR SOURCES AT THE BACK WILL LEAD
TO A MARK OF ZERO FOR PLAGIARISM. A BREACH OF
THE AI POLICY WILL ALSO BE FILED***
