Lizzie Andrew Borden was the major suspect of the axe murders of her father and stepmother that were committed on 4th August, 1892. She was tried and found not guilty of the murders. Lizzie was born on 19th July, 1860. Her parents were Andrew Borden and Sarah Morse. She had a sibling by the name Emma. Sarah died few months before Lizzie attained the age of 3, and Andrew married Abby Gray a few years later. Lizzie hardly got along with her stepmother, and it reached a point where she stopped calling her “mother.” Prior to the murders, Lizzie had demonstrated some odd behavior. For instance, she had earlier been accused of shoplifting, and therefore, when the Borden home was robbed of cash and jewelry, she was the prime suspect. A Fall River cloakmaker had admitted that Lizzie had described her step mother as a “mean old thing.” Also, there was a time when Lizzie allegedly tried to purchase poison at a drug store, but did not succeed. Furthermore, Lizzie had visited her aunt and expressed fear of poisoning since she believed her father had enemies, and she suspected some people they were living with.
In the morning of August 4, 1892, Abby was murdered in the guest room by 19 hatchet blows to the back of her head. Andrew was killed a while later in the sitting room sofa. Authorities were notified of the murders, and as a result, dozens of policemen trooped in and out of the home. Lizzie was interrogated and later arrested for the murders. A trial was held and the jury found her “not guilty.” I believe that Lizzie actually committed the murders. This is because she had motive. She hardly liked her step mother and previously, she had had a disagreement with her father when he killed some pigeons; Lizzie had built a roost for the pigeons. I also think Lizzie is guilty because as described above, she had demonstrated some odd behaviors, such as attempting to purchase poison and her obsession with the idea that some people wanted to kill her father.
