6 ways to deal with a class you hate
Classes are designed to prepare students for future roles
and the real world. However, just like there are interesting classes, there are others that are boring. Students
lack the motivation and the zeal to attend and listen to them. Here are six ways you can use to deal with a
class you hate.
Change your attitude towards the class
You first
have to contextualize the class. Understand why you dislike it. Whether it is the
lecturer you dislike or you don’t understand the content. Figure out the
importance of the class in your life. Keep it at the back of your mind that
excellent performance in this subject will boost your resume. Then from there
look for incentives that will help you gain interest. If studying textbooks is
boring, search for audiobooks and videos you can use to study. Shift your
mindset and look for something positive about the class.
Talk to your lecturer about it
Do not
hesitate to talk to your lecture about it. This might make them adjust their
teaching style and make the class more engaging and interesting. Also, the
lecturer can explain to you how the class relates to real life and give you
more resources such as YouTube links and journals to guide you.
Engage other students who are interested in the class
Study with
other students who enjoy the class and talk to others who have already done
that course to understand how their experience was. The students may explain to
you concepts you don’t understand or better even give you materials such as
documentaries to use during your private studies.
Prepare an action plan
Prepare an
action plan that you will use when studying the content of that particular
subject. Prioritize the assignments and work on them when the mind is active. Break
down the assignment into manageable segments. You can also hire a private tutor
to help you understand the subject better.
Attend class
Don’t miss
classes. Missing them will only worsen the situation. Attending and
participating in class will help you understand the content. Be ahead of the lecturer,
study topics before they handle them. That way you can grasp the information
faster during class time as you had already studied it on your own.
Don’t give up
Don’t give
up on the class as it will affect you negatively. You will fail in the subject
and this will reflect in your resume. Instead, incentivize learning the
subject. Applaud yourself for every improvement you make and associate the
class with something you enjoy.
