In what ways has your views about yourself and people changed as a result of this course? In what ways have they remained the same?

Hello all,

Throughout this course, I have come to the understanding that learners are able to adjust their thinking based on the information which is being presented to them. This follows with each individual learning differently, each person has different learning styles, as well as students being able to adjust their thinking they are also able to adjust their perspective. This helps to identify, as well as question assumptions while creating new opportunities for the critical thinkers. To help, we educators must make the learning experience more enjoyable by unlocking learning experiences for those that often get left behind throughout experiences. Mentoring is also a key strategy, as this is where a teacher may provide a learning-supportive environment. Together, teachers and students can create a supportive and friendly environment.

A specific example of this would be after a certain activity or group experience, the teacher could allow the students to come together for a group talk. Throughout this group talk, the teacher could assign the students some reflective questions to answer, this may help all students to interact together, as well as share their insight.

Hello All, I hope everyone is well. Transformative education is essentially initiating lessons and teaching styles in a way in which students can become active participants and engage fully in the development of skills, as well as communication, and critical thinking.

Inquires from teachers should basically require students to synthesize, or cooperate and combine, create, and interpret former knowledge to be able to then identify what he or she currently has a comprehensive grasp on, as well as the concepts needed to further be nourished for expansion.

Students will draw conclusions and inferences based upon experience, which will facilitate peer interaction and discussion and drive the more meaningful dialogue and shared experiences. An example of how a teacher may incorporate this is to distribute contrasting articles, or text on a subject, perhaps the rainforest, and the cutting down of trees.

Students would then read the varying text and then using their prior knowledge with a blend of the text and would have to ponder his or her position, stance, or relevance to the topic. Students would offer personal insights or feedback based on their own level of understanding, in turn, evolving the conversation and dynamic of the topic at hand.

I hope everyone is well. Teaching at the elementary level is something I have dreamed about since I was a child. Although I have technically been in the field of education for ten plus years, from preschool to head start, to kindergarten to fourth grade, I have held the title of Assistant Teacher, or Paraprofessional.

Since I have only an associate degree as opposed to a bachelor’s degree. This fact has been a ‘pain’ in my side for a long while now. I made the decision over a year ago to commit and earn my bachelor’s degree. I have learned so much being an aid, or assistant, However, I feel confident that I have earned as well as have the skillset to accomplish and become much more than an ‘assistant.’

All these years later, the passion and kindness for all children has not diminished. I still crave the classroom environment. So much has changed since I was a child, in education and beyond. However, my passion remains consistent. So long as our world is evolving, I must too, continue to evolve. I have an inner voice telling me to keep going, help others, share what I know, and be a light to others, who may not think anyone cares, or cannot see a brighter future.

Teaching for social justice is precisely why I want to teach and share my experiences both sad and spectacular with others; students, parents, colleagues, and beyond.
