In this quarter we havewatched a wide range offilms centered around narratives involving serial killers.Significant questions that arise from thesefilms are:-What defines a serial killer? How do they get caught (when they get caught)?-Why are American audiences so fascinated by these narratives?-What work do these narratives do?-Whose stories are being told? By whom?-Which stories have been thus far omitted? Why?Your writing project for this quarter seeks toconsider these questions. Your task is as follows:-You’ll be pitching your own proposal for a new film involving a serial killer. The genre for thefilm is up to you but should fit with the narrative you’re trying to convey.-You may choose either an actual historical person for explorationor may develop a fictional serial killer based on a historical case. You will need to develop a [loose]idea for a filmthatusesthis character, although how that person figures in the narrative is up to you. While the charactersor situation may be fictional, the project as a whole should exist in the real world (as opposed to awork of science fiction or fantasy0F1). Your selection should seek to consider a previously unexplored narrative or relationship.-You should plan to put your pitch in conversation with at least 2 of the films we consider in thecourse. This doesn’t need to be lengthy but should illustrate some ability to contextualize your workwithin the narrative genre in which it exists. Use of the films can occur in either the “Context” or “Design Scheme” sections of the pitch.-The project should include the following sections:oContext (What are you seeking to explore? Why is this useful to explore now? What is being addressed that hasn’t been otherwise considered? Who is the historical basis forthekiller in your story? This section will require citations for sources.) (2- 3 pages)oPlot synopsis (1 page)oDesignscheme (What do you imagine this filmwould look/soundlike? Which design elements are most important to your vision? Why?) (1 page)oScene/monologue sample (1 page)-The context section should cite relevant research materials that effectively support your argumentthat the story you’re seeking to tell needs to be told (and needs to be toldnow).Notes—Thepitch should be approximately5- 6 pageslongand written in MLA format. It must contain at least5 fullpages of text not including a title page or “Works Cited” and should not exceed 7pagesat the absolute maximum. You are welcome to include images or links to other media in your project, but thesedo not count towards the page count.
