1. Describe who you interviewed.

a) Include the individual’s industry, position or title, and organization, email address, or phone number.

2. Explain how you contacted this person.

a) What was your process for achieving contact: How did you find the individual? Was this person a relative, referral, co-worker?

b) How difficult or easy was it to set up this appointment and explain your reasoning.

c) Was this individual your first, second, or third choice for an interview then share why? 

3. Share the context/setting for the interview. 

a) Was this interview face-to-face, a computer meeting, FaceTime, or on the phone?

b) How long did the interview last?

c) If the interview was face-to-face, discuss the body language in relationship to his/her words. Give an example of how the body language did or did not match the responses.

d) If the interview was not face-to-face, do you think this would have made a difference in the information that you obtained? Why or why not do you feel this was a factor in your data collection? Do you believe the information you obtained would have been different if the interview had not been conducted face-to-face? Why or why not do you believe this played a role in your data collection?

a) List all the questions that you asked your interviewee. Include the detailed answers that you obtained below each question.

b) List the questions you prepared but didn’t get to ask due to timing issues.

4. What networking contacts and/or resources did you obtain during the interview?

5. Describe your overall interview experience.

d) Would you conduct another informational interview with a different person in this field? Share your rationale either way.

e) How interested are you in pursuing an available position with this organization based upon your interview? Clearly explain your reasoning regarding your interest.

6. Conclude your paper by thoroughly reflecting then sharing two keypoints that you learned (not previously mentioned in this paper) ortwo observations that you made from this overall informational interview experience.
