PICOT Question Paper

PICOT Question Paper

Review your problem or issue and the study materials to formulate a PICOT question for your capstone project change proposal. A PICOT question starts with a designated patient population in a particular clinical area and identifies clinical problems or issues that arise from clinical care. The intervention used to address the problem must be a nursing practice intervention. Include a comparison of the nursing intervention to a patient population not currently receiving the nursing intervention, and specify the timeframe needed to implement the change process. Formulate a PICOT question using the PICOT format (provided in the assigned readings) that addresses the clinical nursing problem.

The PICOT question will provide a framework for your capstone project change proposal.

In a paper of 500-750 words, clearly identify the clinical problem and how it can result in a positive patient outcome.

Describe the problem in the PICOT question as it relates to the following:

Evidence-based solution
Nursing intervention
Patient care
Health care agency
Nursing practice

PICOT Question

PICOT Question
The research problem is on increased cases of myocardial infarction among women who have blood pressure upon undergoing hysterectomy. A high percentage of the cases occur during the first year after hysterectomy (Ding et al., 2018). The focus is to research on the increased cases, especially on women aged 30 to 50 years old.
The suggested PICOT question argues that, are hypertensive women between 30 to 50 years at risk of myocardial infarction within one year after hysterectomy compared to women without blood pressure?
Women who are between 30 to 50 years old have a high risk of blood pressure. The blood pressure may trigger further biological complications such as acute myocardial infarction, especially after hysterectomy. The PICOT question will focus on comparing the level of risk among women who have high blood pressure. One of the reasons could be that high blood pressure already poses a risk of heart problems, including acute myocardial infarction (Ding et al., 2018). The PICOT question will focus on unveiling the relationship between blood pressure and acute myocardial infarction.
Hysterectomy involves surgery of the uterus to lower the risk of cancer. In some cases healthcare practitioners may recommend to also remove the ovaries to ward off the risk. However, research shows that hysterectomy increases the risk of heart problems such as myocardial infarction (Ding et al., 2018). The risk is higher for women suffering from blood pressure. Although the relationship between surgical operation and myocardial infarction is still unknown, it is important to assess the prevalence of the condition in women with high blood pressure.
A research carried out by Ding et al. (2018) demonstrates there is a relationship between heart problems and hysterectomy. The findings of the study point to the possibility that the risk of heart problems may increase after the surgery. Healthcare specialists have also speculated that the condition may become severe, especially for women who are between 30 to 50 years. The focus on the women aged 30 to 50 is important since the women at this age group experience major changes in their bodies, especially due to menopause. Additional research shows that during menopause, the hormonal changes may trigger an increase in weight. The increased weight may hike the blood pressure, thus increasing the risk of heart problems. One of the major heart problems identified among women who have undergone hysterectomy is myocardial infarction.
Myocardial infarction, or popularly known as a heart attack, occurs when the deoxygenated blood supplied to the heart muscles. The condition occurs due to blockage of the arteries supplies the heart muscles with oxygenated blood. According to Laughlin-Tommaso et al. (2018), women who undergo a hysterectomy are likely to suffer from congestive heart failure after some time. Congestive heart failure is triggered by impaired balance of hormones especially due to biological changes.
The PICOT question will involve a study of the target audience for one year. The period is sufficient for women who have undergone hysterectomy to show various signs of heart problems. During the study, the PICOT question compared women with blood pressure against those without hypertension. The analysis within a year will show whether women without blood pressure will develop the risk of myocardial infarction (Laughlin-Tommaso et al., 2018). The time will also be sufficient to study the women after the surgical operation. The period will involve noting the symptoms exhibited by the women, including their blood pressure and the likelihood of myocardial infarction.
